Automatic train protection
Kavach is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system developed by Indian Railways to eliminate train collisions and prevent Signal Passing at Danger.
Indian Railways has significantly scaled up safety infrastructure by approving multiple projects worth Rs 675 crore, including Rs 170 crore dedicated to deploying the advanced Kavach Version 4.0 across the Moradabad Division. Developed indigenously by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in collaboration with Indian industry partners, Kavach serves as the national Automatic Train Protection framework. It provides continuous real-time signalling inside the locomotive cabin and applies emergency braking automatically if a loco pilot fails to respond. This technology plays a pivotal role in reducing train accidents caused by human error or severe weather conditions like fog.
Developed indigenously by RDSO in collaboration with Medha Servo Drives, Kernex Microsystems, and HBL Power Systems.
Adopted by the Ministry of Railways as India's National Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System in July 2020.
Operates primarily to prevent Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), control overspeeding, and avoid head-on/rear-end train collisions.
Utilizes RFID tags fitted on tracks, ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio communication, and On-Board Computers inside locomotives.
B is correct тАФ Kavach is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system that controls train speed and prevents collisions by automatically applying brakes.
Remember that Kavach was originally named TCAS (Train Collision Avoidance System) before being adopted as the national ATP system, linking RDSO innovation directly to static Railway Safety GK.
