When a moving bus stops suddenly, the passengers tend to fall forward due to inertia of motion. Since the lower part of the body comes to rest along with the bus, the upper part continues to move forward at the same speed due to inertia.

If you place a coin on a piece of cardboard resting on a glass and pull the cardboard quickly, the coin falls into the glass due to inertia. Similarly, when a running horse stops suddenly, the rider falls forward.
Remember: 'Rest stays rest, motion keeps motion' (Inertia is the resistance to any change in state).

According to Newton's first law of motion (Law of Inertia), an object continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by an external force to change that state. When the bus is in motion, both the bus and the passenger's body are moving at the same speed. When brakes are applied, the bus and the lower part of the passenger's body in contact with the seat come to rest instantly, but the upper part of the body tends to maintain its state of motion due to inertia.
Inertia is the inherent property of a body by virtue of which it resists any change in its state of rest or uniform motion.
Mass is a measure of the inertia of a body; greater mass means greater inertia.
There are three types of inertia: Inertia of rest, Inertia of motion, and Inertia of direction.
Explains many everyday mechanical phenomena observed during transit.
Can cause injury during sudden stops if safety measures like seat belts are not used.
Dusting a carpet by beating it (inertia of rest)
Athletes running before taking a long jump
Falling forward when a moving bus stops suddenly
Newton's First Law is also known as the Law of Galileo or Law of Inertia.
Option A (Newton's third law) governs action and reaction pairs, like rocket propulsion.
Option B (Acceleration due to gravity) is the acceleration gained by an object due to gravitational force (gтЙИ9.8┬аm/s2).
Option D (Newton's second law) relates net force to rate of change of momentum (F=ma).
C is correct тАФ When a bus stops suddenly, passengers fall forward due to the inertia of motion possessed by their bodies.
Always distinguish between inertia of rest (falling backward when a bus starts) and inertia of motion (falling forward when a bus stops).
