IAF successfully tests indigenous Khagantak-243 glide bomb from Su-30MKI fighter jet
The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully conducted the maiden flight drop trial of the indigenous Khagantak-243 long-range precision-guided glide bomb at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. The weapon was integrated and released from a Su-30MKI fighter aircraft, meeting all trial parameters. Developed jointly by Nagpur-based private defense company JSR Dynamics and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), the system provides India with a stand-off precision strike capability to destroy high-value enemy targets without exposing launching aircraft to hostile air defense systems.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and private sector collaborations operate under the Ministry of Defence, supporting the 'Make in India' and 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' defence initiatives. Pokhran Field Firing Range, situated in the Thar Desert of Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan, is India's premier military testing facility and historically served as the site for India's nuclear tests (Pokhran-I in 1974 and Pokhran-II in 1998).
The Khagantak-243 is an indigenous 300 kg-class long-range glide bomb.
It has a standoff strike range of 144 km to 180 km when dropped from around 12 km altitude at Mach 0.8.
It was jointly developed by private firm JSR Dynamics (Nagpur) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
The maiden flight trial was successfully executed from a Su-30MKI aircraft at Pokhran, Rajasthan.
B is correct тАФ The Indian Air Force successfully executed the maiden drop trial of the Khagantak-243 glide bomb using a Su-30MKI fighter aircraft.
Remember that heavy indigenous standoff munitions like BrahMos-ALCM, RudraM-II, and Khagantak-243 are primary integrated and flight-tested on the Su-30MKI due to its heavy payload capacity and twin-engine stability.
