Samsonite is a well-known international brand for luggage, bags, and travel accessories, not surveying instruments. Digital theodolites are high-precision optical-electronic instruments used in surveying to measure horizontal and vertical angles.
Digital theodolites operate using an optical system paired with electronic rotary encoders (photoelectric sensors) that convert the mechanical rotation of the telescope and alidade into digital angular readouts on an LCD screen.
Prominent manufacturers of digital theodolites and surveying equipment include Sokkia, Topcon, Nikon, Leica Geosystems, and Trimble.
Digital theodolites eliminate manual vernier readings, significantly reducing human reading errors and speeding up field operations.
Samsonite is an American luggage manufacturer with no involvement in surveying equipment production.
Automatic angular display on LCD screens reduces reading and transcription errors.
Inbuilt electronic sensors allow for zero-setting and quick angular measurements.
Requires power supply (batteries) to operate electronic displays and sensors.
Higher initial cost and delicate electronic components compared to traditional optical theodolites.
Measuring precise horizontal and vertical angles in civil engineering site layouts.
Triangulation networks, traversing, and alignment control in construction works.
Option A (Nikon): Produces high-precision optical and digital surveying instruments including theodolites and total stations.
Option B (Sokkia): A leading Japanese brand specializing in optical and digital surveying instruments.
Option C (Topcon): A prominent global brand in precision measurement equipment, total stations, and digital theodolites.
D is correct тАФ Samsonite is a brand of luggage and travel gear, whereas Nikon, Sokkia, and Topcon are well-known manufacturers of digital theodolites and surveying instruments.
For competitive exams, remember major equipment brands: Leica, Sokkia, Topcon, Nikon, Trimble, and South manufacture surveying gear, whereas commercial non-engineering brands often appear as distractor options.
