The Ministry of Jal Shakti launched the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) initiative under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign to boost community-led rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge. Through citizen participation, local governance, and restoration of water bodies, the campaign aims to ensure long-term water security. Chhattisgarh achieved the top rank nationally by implementing massive water conservation projects, with five of its districts placing among the top 10 nationwide. In its third edition, Chhattisgarh registered 79,775 water conservation structures and successfully completed 77,719 of them.
Water is a State subject under Entry 17 of the State List in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. The central nodal agency overseeing nationwide water management initiatives, policy implementation, and campaigns like Catch the Rain is the Ministry of Jal Shakti, which was formed in May 2019 by merging the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
