In early 2025, which Indian state launched the 'Green Energy Corridor' phase-II project to integrate renewable energy into the national grid?
Gujarat
Rajasthan
Tamil Nadu
Maharashtra
Rajasthan
Rajasthan is among the seven states implementing the Green Energy Corridor Phase-II project to integrate 20 GW of renewable energy.
The Green Energy Corridor (GEC) Phase-II is an ambitious initiative approved by the Union Cabinet in January 2022 to strengthen the intra-state transmission systems. It facilitates the grid integration of renewable energy projects in states with high potential for solar and wind power. The project aims to lay 10,750 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and establish 27,500 MVA of substation capacity. By enhancing the transmission infrastructure, the government aims to reduce power curtailment and achieve India's climate commitments.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is the nodal ministry responsible for the development of renewable energy in India. Article 48A of the Indian Constitution directs the State to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wild life of the country, which aligns with India's transition to green energy.
Approved by Union Cabinet in January 2022
Target capacity for integration is 20 GW of renewable energy
Covers 7 states: Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh
Central Financial Assistance (CFA) provided by MNRE is 33 percent of the project cost
B is correct тАФ Rajasthan is one of the seven designated states participating in the InSTS GEC Phase-II project to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the national grid.
Remember that GEC Phase-I covered 8 states, while Phase-II covers 7; link this to India's 'Panchamrit' goals announced at COP26 to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030.
