When asked by students and admirers to celebrate his birthday, he requested that it instead be observed as a day to honor the teaching profession. This legacy continues today, recognizing the vital role educators play in shaping the intellectual and moral fabric of the nation. In 2026, the tradition continued with the President of India presenting National Teachers' Awards to 48 exemplary school teachers.
