Sudhakar Dalela has been appointed as the new Ambassador of India to Nepal in October 2026.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced the appointment of Sudhakar Dalela, a 1993-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, as India's next Ambassador to Nepal. Prior to this, he served as a Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. This diplomatic posting is crucial as India and Nepal share extensive cultural, economic, and strategic ties, often referred to as the 'Roti-Beti' relationship. The appointment aligns with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and cooperation.
The India-Nepal relationship is defined by the 1950 Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which forms the foundation of bilateral ties. Nepal holds strategic importance for India due to its position as a buffer state and its shared borders with five Indian states: Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
