Seven friends A, B, C, D, E, F, and G attend a seminar on different days of a week starting from Monday to Sunday. Only two people attend after B. C attends immediately before G. Only three people attend between B and A. F attends before D. E does not attend on Monday. Who attends the seminar on Wednesday?
A
C
F
E
A
Quick Trick: Fix the positions of B and A first based on the 'two after B' and 'three between B and A' constraints, then fill C and G in adjacent empty slots.
Fix the positions of B and A first based on the 'two after B' and 'three between B and A' constraints, then fill C and G in adjacent empty slots.
Establish fixed positions
Days are Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun. Only two attend after B, so B is on Friday. Only three attend between B and A, counting backwards from Friday (Thu, Wed, Tue), A must be on Monday.
Place C and G
C is immediately before G. The remaining empty spots are Tue, Wed, Thu, Sat, Sun. C and G must be consecutive: they can be (Tue, Wed) or (Sat, Sun). But since F is before D, we check constraints: E cannot be Monday (A is already there).
Complete the arrangement
If C-G are Tue-Wed, we have Mon(A), Tue(C), Wed(G), Thu(F), Fri(B), Sat(D), Sun(E) (E not on Mon, F before D is satisfied). A attends on Monday, C on Tuesday, G on Wednesday.
B: C attends on Tuesday, not Wednesday. C: F attends on Thursday, not Wednesday. D: E attends on Sunday, not Wednesday.
A is correct because, based on the fixed constraints, A is assigned to Monday, C to Tuesday, and G to Wednesday, while F, B, D, and E occupy the remaining slots.
In scheduling puzzles, always identify the most constrained person or the person with fixed 'absolute' positions first to anchor your grid.
