Tamil Nadu launched India's first dedicated Deep Tech Startup Policy in January 2026 to foster advanced technological innovation.
The Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Startup Policy 2025-2026 was officially unveiled by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during the 4th edition of UmagineTN 2026. This initiative is designed to bridge the lab-to-market gap and position the state as a premier national hub for frontier technologies including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and space tech. By facilitating structured support and funding, the state aims to accelerate its journey toward becoming a 1 trillion dollar economy.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, oversees the national startup ecosystem and ranking frameworks. States derive their power to create such policies from the Seventh Schedule of the Indian Constitution, which lists Industrial Development as a State Subject (Entry 24).
