Which type of soil is known as "wind deposited soil"?
Residual
Aeolian
Alluvial
Drift
Aeolian
Aeolian soils are those transported and deposited by the action of wind. Common examples include dunes and loess, which are formed when wind velocity decreases, causing suspended particles to settle.

The mechanism involves the wind's capacity to transport fine-grained particles (sand and silt) over long distances. When the wind's energy dissipatesтАФeither due to an obstacle or a reduction in velocityтАФthe transported material undergoes mechanical deposition. This process results in characteristic soil formations like dunes or massive, porous deposits like loess.
Aeolian soil is categorized as a 'transported soil'.
Dunes are typically cohesionless, wind-blown sand deposits.
Loess is a wind-blown silt deposit characterized by high porosity and vertical drainage.
Aeolian deposits are often loose and susceptible to collapse upon saturation.
Uniform grain size distribution in specific deposits.
Easily identifiable topographical features like barchan dunes.
Often possess low shear strength when dry.
Highly susceptible to collapse (collapsible soil) when wetted under load.
Foundation engineering in arid regions.
Geological mapping and resource exploration.
Residual soil remains at the site of parent rock formation, whereas Aeolian soil is transported.
Alluvial soil is deposited by running water (rivers).
Drift is a general term for glacial deposits.
B is correct тАФ Aeolian soil is defined specifically as soil transported and deposited by wind action.
Always distinguish between transportation agents: Wind (Aeolian), Water (Alluvial), Gravity (Colluvial), and Ice (Glacial/Drift) for exam questions on soil formation.
