QavgтАЛ=TVtotalтАЛтАЛ тАФ Calculation of average water discharge rate required for the project pipeline network, where V is volume and T is time.
The project operates on a multi-stage lifting mechanism. Surplus water is diverted from the Sardar Sarovar Dam into the Saurashtra region through a vast network of pipelines. A series of pumping stations lift the water to higher elevations to reach 115 drought-prone reservoirs, effectively creating a grid for water distribution across the arid landscape.
SAUNI Yojana covers 11 districts in the Saurashtra region.
The project utilizes pipelines instead of open canals to minimize water loss through evaporation and seepage.
It aims to fill 115 dams, serving as a lifeline for agriculture and drinking water supply during dry seasons.
The network length exceeds 1,100 km of large diameter pipelines.
Efficient water distribution via pipeline network.
Significant reduction in evaporation losses compared to open canal systems.
Provides reliable water supply for irrigation in drought-prone areas.
High initial capital investment for heavy pumping infrastructure.
Ongoing operational costs related to high energy consumption for pumping.
Agricultural irrigation management.
Drinking water security for semi-arid regions.
Groundwater recharge facilitation.
The project was envisioned to transform the water-scarce Saurashtra region into a water-surplus zone.
Options B, C, and D are incorrect as they misrepresent the acronym's purpose and terminology.
A is correct тАФ The full form of SAUNI Yojana is Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation, which refers to the large-scale pipeline infrastructure project in Gujarat.
In competitive exams, always link irrigation scheme names to their regional geography to identify the source and destination of water (e.g., Narmada to Saurashtra).
